The 88/14 model brought the rifle up to service specs for WWI, at that point it was still the preferred rifle for certain troops from Baden and Prussia. The ones the Turks reworked are Ankara-marked on the receiver - yours isn't one of those, at least. They're on the bottom of the Gew 88 barrel price-wise. Ones the Turks owned but didn't overhaul will have small crescent marks on small parts. I'm looking at an old custom bolt action varmint rifle built on a Model 98 Mauser action. It would be nice to know the country of origin/manufacture of the action. It was a very ingenious design that when mounted on the Gew 88’s short, side mounted bayonet lug, the larger portion of the double muzzle ring slipped over the section of the Gew 88’s muzzle, ahead of the barrel jacket.
